Reassuring Friends

Friends stand by you, but they are not the only ones who do.

Once they were my enemies,
These blokes of mine,
These buzzing flies.

I feared they’d be the end of me,
These pounding boards,
These thumping floors.

Oftentimes they mock me,
These banshee wails,
These constant tales.

But lately they have shocked me.
These poisoned wells,
These ringing bells.

When she had simply run away,
These faceless words,
These cawing birds.

They told me I would be okay.
These parts of me.
Myself.
