It was another bloody night.
Again we went,
Sent off to fight.
Some died, some survived.
We never understood
Who or why.
I fought a man, as many did.
He shot at me,
I cornered him.
He put his weapon on the ground,
Put up his hands,
Spoke clear and loud.
“I’m just a man, just as you are,
I made no choice,
My home is far.”
“I did not want to kill you, sir,
I was drafted here,
This is absurd.”
“I have a kid, a wife at home.
We can walk away,
Just let me go.”
I looked into his begging eyes,
He told the truth,
He shook and cried.
I killed that man, as many did.
He shot at me.
He shot at me.
